Parking in traffic: hazards and making room

How it differs from an empty car park

In an empty space your only concern is the lines. In traffic, the cars behind you and coming the other way matter too. The manoeuvre is the same, but timing and communication become important.

Before the manoeuvre: show your intent

The in-game tutorial starts every manoeuvre by switching on the hazards: the lights flash while the instructor checks the mirrors and surroundings. That way the driver behind knows early that the car ahead is about to park.

In real traffic, follow local rules and your instructor on the use of indicators and hazard lights.

How traffic behaves in Parking Trainer

Traffic mode runs two-way traffic that mimics a real street:

• Cars slow down or stop as they approach the car in front.
• With your hazards on, start reversing and the car behind backs off to give you room if it can.
• If there are more cars behind it, the yielding can carry on down the queue.
• Drivers in traffic have different personalities; parked cars are empty.
• Harder levels mean tighter bays and denser, faster traffic.

Don’t rush, don’t skip a step

With someone waiting behind you, it is tempting to hurry. Yet in traffic the biggest time loss is having to try again because you rushed. Follow the tutorial’s order: stop, change gear, turn the wheel, move slowly.
